HENRY F. WOMER, M.D., of Johnstown, who stands high in his honored and useful 
profession, is a son of Michael and Elizabeth (Frain) Womer, and was born 
December 28, 1848, in that part of Union that is now Snyder county, 
Pennsylvania. The American ancestry of the Womer family, like unnumbered 
thousands of other families, reaches back but a few generations, and loses the 
links of its chain with Daniel Womer, the grandfather of the subject of this 
sketch.
     Daniel Womer was born, reared and died in Lebanon, Snyder county, and saw a 
century, lacking two years, his life-span reaching from 1762 to 1860. He was a 
good farmer and a fine shot, served as a soldier in the War of 1812, and had 
quite a reputation as a hunter and a fisher at a time when the forests abounded 
with game and the streams were filled with fish. He was of Irish descent, and a 
member of the same family as Congressman Womer, of Lebanon county. His son, 
Michael Womer, was a life-long resident of Snyder county, dying June 10, 1893, 
at seventy-eight years of age. He was a farmer and a member of the United 
Brethren church, and married Elizabeth Frain, who was a native of near 
Middleburg, Snyder county, and died at seventy-nine years of age in 1891, while 
her mother, whose maiden name was Mary Bergstrasser, lived to be over ninety 
years of age.
     Dr. Henry F. Womer spent most of his minority at home on the farm, received 
his education in the common schools, Freesburg academy and the Millersville 
State Normal school, and taught for three years in the public schools. He then 
read medicine with Dr. H. M. Nipple, of Fremont, Snyder county, and a short time 
after entered Jefferson Medical college, of Philadelphia, from which he 
graduated in the class of 1878. In the year of his graduation he began practice 
as a physician at Nicker's Half Falls, in Snyder county, where he was actively 
engaged for six years. At the end of that time, in 1884, he removed to 
Liverpool, in Perry county, at which place he had a good practice, and remained 
for six years. He then, in 1890, sought for a wider and more specially adapted 
field to his capabilities, and selected Johnstown, which has fully met his 
expectations. He has built up a desirable and lucrative practice, which is not 
confined within or circumscribed by the boundary lines of the city. Dr. Womer 
never permitted individual comfort or personal enjoyment to come between him and 
his patient, but so loves and respects his noble profession that its toils 
become his pleasures.
     Dr. Womer, in 1875, married Lizzie Wolf, daughter of John S. Wolf, of 
Snyder county. Dr. and Mrs. Womer have three children, two sons and one 
daughter: Dollie F., William E., and Maynard W.
