And the said Michael Sherridan, makes report and registry as follows, Birthplace, France, Age, twenty seven, Nation and allegiance, France, Place whence he migrated, Havre de grace, Place of intended settlement, Cambria County. Michael Chardon Sworn and subscribed in open court this thirtieth day of September A. D. 1844 Wm. A. Smith, Prnty. Petition of Michael Chardon for Naturalization To the Honorable the Judges of the Court of Common Please of Cambria County, The petition of Michael Sherridan humbly sheweth, that your petitioner is a native of France, and was heretofore a subject of Louis Philipe King of France, that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years, (three years of which was previous to his attaining the age of twenty one years) and within the State of Pennsylvania one year, that he herewith presents his declaration of intention of becoming a Citizen of the United States in the manner required by law, that he will support the constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any prince potentate and sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Louis Phillipe King of France of whom he was heretofore a subject. Your petitioner therefore prays that he may be admitted to be Citizen of the United States. I Michael Sherridan do swear that the facts set forth in this my petition are just and true that I will support the Constitution [page 237] of the United States and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce, and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to any prince potentate, and sovereignty whatever & particularly Louis Phillipe, King of France of whom I was heretofore a subject. We Samuel McMullen and Arthur McDermitt, citizens of the United States and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania do swear that the petitioner Michael Sherridan has resided within the limits and under the Jurisdiction of the United States for five years (three years of which time were previous to his attaining the age of twenty one years) and within the State of Pennsylvania one year, all of which time he lived in Cambria County, and that during his residence in the United States, he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.
