Williams from the handwritten text] 107 Petition of ) To the Honorable the Judges of the court of Common John Williams ) Pleas of County of Cambria. for ) The Petitioner of John Williams Humbly Showeth that Your Naturalization ) petitioner is a native of Wales That he never bore any hereditary[?] title or order of Nobility whatever, that Your Petitioner has resided in the Com- monwealth of Pennsylvania within the United States for five Years last past and That Your Petitioner is desireous [sic] of becoming a citi- zen of the United States and of Enjoying the privileges and protection of the same- That he offers to renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to Every foreign prince Potentate State and Sovereignty whatever- That Your Petitioner at January Term A.D. 1835 before that Honorable Court presented his petition Craving leave of filing his report and declaration of his Intentions to become a citizen of the United States. Whereupon Your Petitioner was permited [sic] to file the same and took the oath pre- scribed by all of congress in such case made & provided- that Your petitioner now offers to prove in open court by William Williams a citizen of the United States that Your Petitioner is a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the U States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, and that Your Petitioner has resided in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for five Years last past & upwards, Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays to be admited [sic] a citizen of the United States on making proof afore.d and Taking the oath prescribed by the act of congress and provided, and he will pray &@ his Cambria County ss. John X Williams mark [the above mark looks like an ampersand with a heart over a dot -sdw] John Williams being duly sworn in open court doth depose and say that the fact contained in the foregoing petition are just and true, that he has resided in the State of Pensyl.a five Years last past and upwards- That he will support the constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce & abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince Potentate State and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland to whom he was heretofore a subject. his John X Williams mark Sworn & Subscribed in open court the 2d day of January A.D. 1837 D.T. Storm Prot. 108 Cambria County ss. William Williams being duly sworn in open court according to law do depose and say that he has known the within named Petitioner John Williams for five Years last past and upwards during which time he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.
