The petition of Vallentin Yahner, a native of the Kingdom of Bavaria & District of Speir and Canton Bergzaber, and now an inhabitant of Centre county, in the State of Pennsylvania, respectfully represents: That he sailed from the port of Haver de Grace on third day of April 1831, and arrived at the City of New York in the United States of America on the fifteenth day of May ensuing that he was born (unreadable) Capsweyer and is now upwards of twenty seven years of age and that he was born a subject of the Kingdom of Bavaria and owes allegiance to Ludwick the 2nd, King of Bavaria, that he is now settled in the said county of Centre, state of Pennsylvania, and that it is his bona fide, his intention to become a citizen of the United States, after having complied with the acts of Congress, in such case made and provided. Your petitioner therefore prays this honorable Court to permit, this his declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States, to be filed on record in the said Court, he the said Vallentin Yahner renouncing all allegiance to any foreign prince and Potentate whatsoever particularly to Ludwick 2d, King of Bavaria. Transcribed from photocopy of original filed in Prothonatary Office, Cambria County Courthouse, Ebensburg, PA: October Term, 1841 Petition of Valentine Yahner for Naturalization To the Honorable the Court of Common Please of Cambria County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The petition of Valentine Yahner of Cambria County humbly sheweth that your petitioner is a native of the Kingdom of Bavaria and was heretofore a subject of Lewy, King of Bavaria and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States of America for five years, and within the state of Pennsylvania one year, and that two years prior to this, that is to say on the thirtieth day of August A. D. 1832, at a court of Common Pleas held at Bellefonte, Centre County, your petitioner declared his intention of becoming a citizen of the United States in the manner required by law, as in and by certificate hereunto annexed appears, that he will support the Constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate and sovereignty whatever and particularly to Lewy, King of Bavaria whereof he was heretofore a subject. Your petitioner therefore prays that he may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States of America. Valentine Yahner (in German) I Valentine Yahner do swear that the facts set forth in this my petition are true and that I will support the constitution of the United States and that I do absolutely, and entirely renounce and abjure forever all allegiances and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate and sovereignty whatever and particularly do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure forever, all allegiance and fidelity to the King of Bavaria whereof I was heretofore a subject. Proudfoot & William Todd, citizens of the United States and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do swear that the petitioner Valentine Yahner has resided within the limits, and under the Jurisdiction of the United States of America five years, and within the State of Pennsylvania one year, that is to say, he the said Valentine Yahner resided in Cambria County for five years and upwards, all which places are within and under the Jurisdiction of the United States and that during his residence within the United States, he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the Constitution of the United States, & well disposed to the good order & happiness of the same.
