He immigrated to Johnstown, PA in 1848 and was occupied as a stone mason, later as a masonry contractor. He married Regina Reich, also from Empfingen on November 27, 1854 in Johnstown, PA. She was born in 1834 and immigrated on April 14, 1854. Albert was Naturalized in Cambria County in 1856. They had four children: Mary Theresa, Joseph, Theresa K. and Caroline by April 1964. Albert's brother Jacob served in the Union Army from Sept. 1862 until Nov. 1865. Albert volunteered for the Union Army on August 27, 1864 in Johnstown for a one year term for a pay to be due of $100. He volunteered with at least six other men from his neighborhood in the old Conemaugh Boro. The inspection of the volunteer states that he was age 36, born in Germany, 5'-8" tall, blue eyes, light hair and of sandy complexion. He was mustered in on September 2, 1864 at Camp Reynolds in Pittsburgh into the 204th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers as a Private in Battery D, Company B, 5th Pa. Heavy Artillery. Pension of Widow REGINA BRINDLE Certificate No. 313709 Box 38125 Declaration for Original Pension of a Widow - - Child or Children under Sixteen Years of Age Surviving UNDER AN ACT GRANTING PENSIONS TO SOLDIERS AND SAILORS WHO ARE INCAPACITATED FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF MANUAL LABOR AND PROVIDING FOR PENSIONS FOR WIDOWS, MINOR CHILDREN,AND DEPENDENT PARENTS State of Pennsylvania County of Cambria On this 21st day of July, A.D. 1890 personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, within and for the County and State aforesaid Regina Brindle aged 56 years, a resident of Johnstown, County of Cambria , State of Pennsylvania who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by act of Congress granting pensions to widows, approved June 27, 1890, to wit: That she is the widow of Albert Brindle who served during the late War of the Rebellion under the name of Albert Brindle from the 27 day of August A.D. 1864 to the 30 day of June A.D.1865 as Sergeant in Co. D, 5th Heavy Artillery and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service at Viena Virginia on the 30th day of June 1865 and who died of Inflamation of the Bowels and rupture on the 18 day of March A.D. 1883 at Johnstown, Pa, that she is without other means of support than her daily labor, that she was married under the name of Regina Reich to said Albert Brindle on the 27th day of November A.D. 18 54 by Rev. Clemens at Johnstown, Pa., there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that neither she nor her husband had been previously married; that she has to the present date remained a widow; that the following are the names and dates of birth of all his legitimate children WHO ARE UNDER SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE at the present time; none That she has not in any manner been engaged in, aided or abetted the rebellion in the United States and that no application has been previously made for Pension either by soldier or widow. She hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, GEORGE E. LEMON of Washington, D.C. her true and lawful Attorney, to prosecute this claim. D 5 Pa HA Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for aforesaid County and State, Joseph Kost aged 69 years and Christian Kuckuk aged 67 years, persons of lawful age, who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: They have been acquainted with Regina Brindle for a number of years before she was married and have lived in the immediate neighborhood ever since her husband's death and have ample means of knowing her circumstances. Her income is about four dollars per month for rent, which is nearly all used in water rent, taxes and repairs, and her own earnings. They further declare that they have no interest in said case and are not concerned in its prosecution. Personally came before me, a __________ in and for aforesaid County and State, Regina Brindle, person of lawful age, who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That her husband, the above named soldier, was never in the Military or Naval service of the U. S. subsequent to June 30. 1865. S/ Regina Brindle GENERAL AFFIDAVIT State of ______, County of ______ In the matter of claim for Regina Brindle, Widow of Albert Brindle, Sgt. D, 5 Pa. H.A.: Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for aforesaid County and State, Joseph Kost aged 69 years and Christian Kuckuk aged 67 years, persons of lawful age, who, being duly sworn, declare in in the aforesaid case as follows: We have known Regina Brindle quite a number of years, have lived in the same neighborhood ever since the death of her husband Albert Brindle, know that she has not remarried since her husbands death. Jul. 10, 1891 Albert Brindle was married to Regina Reich on the 27th of November 1854 by the Rev. P. Clemens Staub at St. Joseph's Church, Johnstown. Witnesses were: Andrew Schindler, Joseph Baum, Regina Brindle, Pauline Schindler. Regina Brindle is still living, the rest are dead. Corbinian Gastbohl Affidavit Of Physician who Treated the Soldier in his Last Sickness, Showing the Date and Cause of Death State of Pennsylvania County of Cambria In the pension claim of Regina Brindle, widow of Albert Brindle, D 5th Pa. H.A. Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said County and State. Dr. F. Schill, a resident of Johnstown of the County of Cambria, State of Pennsylvania, who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: I was the attending physician at the time of the above named soldier's death. He died on the 18th day of March, 1883. The immediate cause of death was peritonitas (inflamation of the bowels). He took sick on the 15th day of March 1883. I have been practicing medicine for 27 years. I first knew the soldier about the year 1866. I first treated him professionally about ________, 18__. I cannot remember anymore when I treated him first. All I can state is that I administered medicine to him for Rheumatism and that he in personal conversations often complained not to feel healthy or well.
