B. Reg't Litzingers Batalion Pa. Vols. was enrolled June 17, 1863 and mustered out with Co. Aug 8, 1863. During that time he held the rank of private. (Box 42248, Cert. 429834, claim 407004 of minors of John Plummer, Samuel K., William T., and Oliver) Children's Claim for Pension State of Pennsylvania County of Cambria SS. On this 8th day of October A.D. 1889, personally appeared before me the undersigned authority _________ who being duly sworn makes this declaration in order to obtain a Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862 That they are children of John Plummer who was a member of Company B in the Battalion of ________ Pa the War of 1861; that their mother was married to said John Plummer on or about the 26 day of March 1840. They further declare that their father died on or about the 11 day of October 1866 of disease contracted while in the service. They also declare that they have not in any manner been engaged in or aided or abetted the rebellion in the United States; and they hereby appoint P. J. Lockwood, of Washington, D. C. as their true and lawful Attorney. The following are the names, date of birth of all the children of their deceased father who were under sixteen years of age at the time of his death Eliza E. born Sept 11th 1851; Samuel K born January 25th 1854; Martha and Milliard F. born Apr 9th, 1856; Oliver born May 15th 1858; Lorenzo K. born on or about Jan 1 1860; Annie R. born on or about Mar 9, 1862. Robertson Also personally appeared David Farber residing at Wilmore and James McBurn (sp.) residing at Wilmore persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, say they were present and saw Sarah M. Knepper the claimant, sign their name (or make their mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimants and their acquantance with them that they are the identical persons they represent themselves to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Battly B of the Pa Regt. of _______ Vols. Personally appeared before the undersign duly authorized oaths within and for said County, Sarah M. Knepper aged 47 years, whose P. O. is Wilmore, County of Cambria State of Pa., who being duly sworn, states in relation to said claim as follows to wit: That the Preachor who married her parents John Plummer and Sarah Rhinehart is dead and their is no church record and no neighbors living who remember the date . Further says upon her oath that the following apears in the Family bible whitch is the only record as follows John Plummer and Sarah Rhinehart was married March 26th in the year of our Lord 1840 Also give names of children who are living and born to said marriage Sarah M born Jan 24th 1844 Henry " Aug 25th 1845 Magdalene " Sept 9the 1849 Samuel K " Jan 25th 1854 Millard F. H. H. Robertson Justice of the Peace General Affidavit State of Pa, county of Cambria, S.S.: In claim No 407004 of heirs of John Plummer of Litzinger's Battn Regt. of Pa. Vols. Personally appeared before the undersigned duly authorized to administer oaths within and for said County, Mrs. S.M. Knepper aged 47 years, whose P. O. is Wilmore, County of Cambria, State of Pa, who being duly sworn, states in relation to said claim as follows to wit: in regard to geting the testiony of an officer I cant find any of them that can remember in regard to the evidence of the Dr who atended him after his discharge. it was Dr. Fitch. He is Living in Johnstown and is 82 years old and has becum childish and is not fit to make oath Also in regard to soldier death the only evidence is the family bible record. Whilets I have serch ___the undertake is hes the Dr to old to mind and did not keep a record and Dr. Fitch atended him at time of death and stated above is childish. And affiant further states that he has no interest in this claim. H. H. Robertson Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of Edward Grew, age 54 of Wilmore, Cambria, PA, on 17 Dec 1889 states: I lived next place to John Plummer and vis at his home often during his sickness and saw him (much every day) and helped to lay him out after he died. From all I could tell he died of Dropsy. He was badly swolen at the time of His death and I feal confidant from that what I saw and heard that it was Dropsy that was the cause of his death. I can't Remember the date of his death. Witnesses: W. H. H. Robertson, Justice of the Peace Walter Shubine The General Affidavit of Henry G. Conrad, age 64 of Ashville, Cambria, PA on 3 Feb 1891 states: I was present and with him when he died which was on the eleventh of October 1866 and that I believe the cause of his death was dropsy and that I lived a near neighbor to him about eight years prior to his death and was acquinted with him about twenty years before he died and that his death was not due to any vicious habits and that Doctor Fitch was his physition at the time he died the reason I have saying that he died with dropsy is first, that the doctor so called it and I have saw others with it and it was the same. I tried by pressing my fingers in his flesh which would leave the impression remain for quite awhile. I also saw his feet swollen that he could not get his shoes on and further that he was very Short of Breath before he died. Witnesses: D. G. Myers, Justice of the Peace In the matn of claim No 407004 of Minors of John Plummer of Co Litzingers Battn Pa Vol Record as apears on the family Bible Published 1830 John Plummer and Sarah Rinehart was married March the 26th in the year of our Lord--1840 Sarah Matilda Plummer was born January the 24 in the year of our Lord A.D. 1844 Henry Plummer was born in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and forty five August 25th AD 1845 Susannah Plummer was born July the 5 in the year of our Lord AD 1847 Mary Magdalene Plummer was born September the 9th in the year of our Lord 1849 Eliza Ellen Plummer was born September the 11 AD 1851 Samuel Kern Plummer was born January the 25th in the year of our Lord Ad 1854 Martha Washington and Milliard Filmore Plummer was born April the Ninth in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty Six 1856 Oliver Plummer born May 15th 185 Liranzo C. Plummer Born on or about Jan 1st 1860 Annie R Plummer born on or about Aug 9th 1862 Eliza Ellen Plummer died July 21st AD 1869 Martha Plummer died Sept 17th 1869 Annie Reginia Plummer died Oct 12th AD 1869 Lorenzo Plummer died December 18th 1869 John Plummer died Oct 11th AD 1866 (the clament) Sarah Plummer died Oct 22nd 1869 (the mother) Cambria County SS: Late of Pensylvanin I do hereby certify that I find the above on record and it looks to be a genuine record. The said book being date Ad 1830. Further I have no interest in this claim W. H. H. Robertson, J. P. (his mark) Nov 13th, 1890 The General Affidavit of Ellen Himes, age 52, of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on April 12, 1890 states: I Lived close neighbor to John Plummer Saw him often after He came from the Army He complained of Dropsy His Limbs was badly Swolen. He could not ware His shoes. And His clothes was very tight on Him He could not Fasten His clothes He continued in this way until His death. I saw Him after his death and He was Badly Swolen. I have saw Several persons that died of Dropsy and I was present when Dr. Fitch taped him and drew the water from Mr. Plummer and the Dr told me at the time that it was Dropsy that Mr. Plummer Had and I am confidant that it was dropsy that was the cause of Mr Plummers death from what the Dr. told me and from what I saw myself and knew about the Dropsy I also know thair was nothing ailed Mr. John Plummer when he went to the Army. Witnesses: Isaac D. Jones William E. Crum W. H. H. Robertson, Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of Catherine Molleholm, age 78 of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on 24 March 1890 states: I was Presant when Mrs Sarah Plummer died (the wife of John Plummer) was at the House the time of the Funeral. I did not go to the graveyard It was in the year AD 1869 I cant remember the month. I knew all of her children and thair is 3 living and they was all under 16 years of age at their mother's death thair names is as follows Samuel K Millard F and Olover Plummer These 3 was all under 16 years old at the times of their Father and Mother died. Robertson, Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of Rosana Biry (sp?) age 67, of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on 31 May 1890 states: I was well acquanted with John Plummer I knew he was married at one time to a Miss Fye I knew she died. Could not just say when then he married a Miss Rhinehart and they raised a large family of children As far as I knew this Miss Rhinehart had not been previously married to anyone and she did ot remarry after His death. Witnesses: W. H. H. Robertson, Justice of Peace M F Plummer The General Affidavit of Margret Crum, age 82 of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on 24 Nov 1890 states; I was at the Funerall of Mrs. Sarah Plummer, wife of John Plummer. It was some time in the year 1869, that she died. I cant tell the month. There was 3 children under 16 years old when John Plummer died and they are still living. Thair names are Samuel K Millard F and Oliver. Witnesses: Esther Crum W. H. H. Robertson, Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of Jemmima Smay, age 83 , of Wilmore, Cambria, PA states: I was present and saw John Plummer married to Magdaline Fye , was at thair house. when she lay sick and was thair and saw her when she lay a corps. and atended the funerall I think to the Best of My Knoledge the Record in the Family Bible whitch was shown to me is corect making the Day of her Death April 24th AD 1839 I knew it was the month of April and the year AD 1839 the Reason I Recolect it so well I brot the baby Home with me it was only 3 days old I kept the baby til it was about one year old Witnesses: Barbia Smay Ida I. Smay W. H. H. Robertson, Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of David Farber, age 65 of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on 15 July 1892 states: On or about the 17 day of June 1863 myself and the decesed soldier John Plummer enlisted together in the above sated Orginazation at the time of enlistment he appeared to be as Sound as a Dollar- I will state that the Dec worked for me many years on the Pensan. Rail Road as a track hand and up to the time of his enlistment he never complained of being afflicted in anyway whatever I think it was about one month after we had been in the service togeather that I noticed the swelling in his feet and leggs which had the appearance of dropsy The Dec Soldier Stated to me at the time that he thought the swelling of his feet and leggs was caused by exposure as he had to lay and sleep on the damp ground and had taken cold which had settled in his kidneys and that he had trouble to make his water No Witnesses A. J. Skelly, Justice of the Peace The General Affidavit of Cathirine Conally, age 76, of Wilmore, Cambria, PA on 19 Dec 1889, states: I lived a close neighbor to John Plummer I was at his house I believe evy day during his sickness I took Him milk to drink He took sick in the Spring and died in the fall I know he had dropsy if you would push on his body it would leave a dinge I have saw a good many with dropsy and I am confidant that is what was the cause of his death I cant just fix the date of his death.
