Friday, 24 Feb 1905 Volume 39, Number 7 Items Local and Personal Mrs. Frank Daggatt of Buffalo who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Shields, returned home on Monday, accompanied by her sister, Miss Annie Shields. Mrs. Elizabeth Emigh of Wilmore spent several days with her mother, Mrs. Walters, in this place, this week. Mrs. A. J. Darragh and daughter, Miss Bessie, returned home on Wednesday from a visit to Youngstown, Ohio. Mrs. Ed Dunnegan and Miss Annie Dunnegan of Dysart spent Monday with relatives here. George Dunnegan of Altoona spent a few hours with friends in this place Wednesday. Miss Fannie Lloyd spent Sunday with school friends at the Hollidaysburg Seminary. Mrs. Jos. Mellon spent Wednesday with her daughter, Mrs. Jno. T. Blair. Miss Ethel Shields spent Saturday in Johnstown. Earl Jones is home from college for a few days visit. Mrs. Jas. A. Scanlan returned on Friday from a visit to Pittsburg. Geo. D. and O. A. Kinkead were in Pittsburg, Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Hosea Evans returned home from Pittsburg on Monday. Mrs. John W. Boden of Johnstown is the guest of her uncle, Wm. Makin. Chas. Doherty of Lilly who has been quite ill is now convalescent. Jno. Charlton of North Spangler has been suffering from an abscess on his arm. Frank Connell of Johnstown visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Connell in this place Monday. A benefit ball for Thomas Wardrobe was given in the Miner's Hall, Barnesboro, Monday evening, February 20. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Buck of Allegheny township recently celebrated the forty- eighth anniversary of their wedding. Ed Krug who is now in the employ of the PRR in their Altoona car shops spent several days in this place this week. Mr. and Mrs. Laubaucher of Altoona visited Mrs. Laubaucher's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Englehart in this place Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. M. Wertz and Mrs. Elmer Davis of Johnstown attended the reception given by the Presbyterian Industrial Society on Friday evening. Dr. T. Mason Richards, who during the past six months has been engaged as a sales agent in Ohio for a large wall paper factory, has returned to his home in this place, where he will remain during the summer. The Moss Creek Hotel at Marsteller has been sold by Bert Thurston to W. W. Hoover, one of the proprietors of the Hotel Ritter, North Barnesboro. It is understood that Mr. Hoover will take possession March 15th. William Fennell, formerly a resident of Barnesboro, was found guilty in the criminal court of Clearfield recently of conducting a gambling house at Ramey. He was sentenced to pay a fine of $100, and to 30 days imprisonment in the county jail. Major William Nicholson of the Regular Army, who reviews the National Guard at Johnstown on Friday will be remembered by many residents of this place as he and his wife, Hattie Fenlon, frequently spent their summers here a number of years ago. Mrs. Nicholson is well known here. Blandburg We have lots of snow up in our little town. Miss Lace Wright is home from Pittsburg on a two weeks vacation. Mrs. John Cann, who has been on the sick list for some time, is better at this writing. The quarantine has been lifted from F. D. Read's house and they are able to be out again. We are glad to see John Cann able to be out again. He has been confined to the house nearly all winter. They say that the children that go to Blandburg schools will be compelled to be vaccinated as it has been ordered by the Board of Health. Leg Ground Off Irvin Kerns of Hastings had the misfortune recently to have his leg ground off in a railroad accident. The injured man was taken to the Altoona Hospital. DEATHS Teresa Lucinda Sellers Died, Teresa Lucinda Sellers, wife of John E. Sellers, of Maysville, at her home Friday afternoon, February 10, 1905, at 5:40 o'clock of tuberculosis, after an illness of one year. Shephard Child A little child, about one month old, of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Shephard died of heart failure at their home near Empire Mine, North Barnesboro. Mrs. Christina Kutruff Died, Mrs. Christina Kutruff, widow of Martin Kutruff, at her home in Chest township, February 4, aged 82 years, 6 months and 8 days. Mrs. Frances Washko Died, Mrs. Frances Washko who resided near Carrolltown Road. She took a dose of carbolic acid in mistake for medicine. Kills Himself Charles Ward, aged thirty-five years, and lately a police officer at Gallitzin, committed suicide in a shanty just over the Blair County line on the outskirts of Tunnelhill Borough about 4:30 on Monday evening by shooting himself twice in the body. Isaac Wike Dead Isaac Wike, a venerable citizen of Cambria county, died at Summerhill Wednesday, aged 94 years. He was at one time Treasurer of Cambria County and prominent.
