Friday, 3 Aug 1906 Volume 40, Number 30 Items Local and Personal William Beatty and Robert E. Notley of Hastings were in Ebensburg Tuesday. William Kimball was in Pittsburg on Monday where he purchased a carload of cattle. D. A. Murphy of Elton paid us a pleasant call Monday while in town on business. Mrs. Dr. Griffith and her two daughters are visiting Mrs. Walter Bishop of Philadelphia. Mrs. Annie Ray and daughter of Olean, N. Y., are the guests of Mrs. DeArmit of High Street. Miss Ruth Martin of Pittsburg is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rivinus in this place. Attorney Philip N. Shettig has returned home after a week spent in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Miss Martha Davis, daughter of ex-sheriff Elmer E. Davis of Johnstown, is visiting relatives in this place. George E. Wolfe, Esq., one of Johnstown's rising young attorneys, spent Monday in this place on business. John A. Lulay of Garman's Mill paid THE FREEMAN a call Monday being here as a delegate from Susquehanna township. Miss Louise McNamara, formerly of this place but now of St. Louis, arrived here a few days ago and will spend some time with friends. A lawn party was given at the home of Isaac J. Hughes of South Ebensburg recently and was largely attended by the young people. Mrs. A. V. Barker and her two daughters, Lovell and Helen, departed a few days ago for Atlantic City where they will spend a couple weeks. Mrs. Schuyler Davis of this place had as her guest her niece, Miss Sechler of Cherrytree, Indiana county, who departed Wednesday evening for home. Mrs. E. H. Wagenhals with her three daughters arrived here last week from Fort Wayne, Ind., and will spend several months at their summer residence in this place. Carl Englehart, a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Englehart of this place who has been employed for some time by Thomas Shoemaker, a contractor constructing a railroad in Maryland, has returned home to spend his vacation. Miss Aline O'Hara, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. O'Hara of this place met with an accident Tuesday evening while alighting from a buggy. She was pretty badly shaken up by the fall but fortunately no serious injury resulted. The following people left Ebensburg yesterday for Atlantic City where they will spend the next week or ten days: Mrs. W. H. Davis, Mrs. H. T. Jones, Mrs. R. E. Jones and granddaughter, Elizabeth Jones, and Daniel J. Davis. Mrs. Annie Bernard, a milliner in the employ of the Penn Traffic Company's store at Johnstown, with her daughter, Mary and Miss Mary Darling of Johnstown, after spending two weeks in this place, departed for home yesterday evening. Attorney and Mrs. S. L. Reed are among the Ebensburgers who left last evening for Atlantic City. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Siviter of Pittsburg who have been visiting Mrs. Siviter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cham Roberts of this place accompanied them. Dr. Earl Jones and Alfred Shoemaker, two well known young men of this place, have gone camping on the Gutwald farm about 6 miles from Ebensburg. They expect to remain two or three weeks and during that time will entertain their numerous friends at the camp. The Hon. A. V. Barker and M. D. Kittell departed Wednesday for Baltimore where they embarked upon a coasting steamer for Boston. From the Hub they will continue into the wilds of Maine where for the next few days they will engage in hunting and fishing. Mrs. Cauffiel of Pittsburg who had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Darragh and family for the past week returned home Wednesday evening. Her daughters, Miss Rose and Helen, the former a teacher in the Johnstown public schools, who had been here attending the Mountain Summer Assembly, will remain for a week or ten days with friends. W. A. McGuire of Ebensburg, John Garrety of St. Boniface, Clarence Repsher and W. A. Eck of Carrolltown, departed yesterday for Atlantic City where they will attend as delegates the Grand Council Convention of Pennsylvania Jurisdiction of the Young Men's Institute which convenes in Atlantic City August 3rd. Mr. McGuire is a delegate from the Loretto Council. Miss Parks Makes a Handsome Donation Prof. David Emmert who was the teacher of the Arts at the Summer Assembly held in this place was on Wednesday presented with $1000.00 by Miss Nellie Parks of Ebensburg to aid him in his project of providing homes for homeless children. Took Pleasant Drive A pleasant drive was participated in by a party of assembly students Saturday, having driven to Carrolltown and visited the Laughlin Memorial Home on the return trip. The party was composed of Prof. J. H. Wentzel, Miss Sloan, Miss Long, Miss Mae McDuffie and others. The party was in charge of Mr. S. B. Postelthwaite.
