Friday, 18 Jan 1907 Volume 41, Number 3 NEWS Items Local and Personal Mrs. Mary Shoemaker and granddaughter, Esther Davis, are visiting Dr. and Mrs. Walter R. Shoemaker of Wilmerding, Pa. Miss Esther underwent a severe operation, having had her tonsils removed and also a foreign growth removed from her nose. Mrs. F. A. Spiller and daughter, Ann, of Fitzgerald, Ga., who have been visiting relatives and friends in this place, will leave in a few days for their home. Mrs. W. I. Stineman and son, Frank, of South Fork are visiting Mrs. Stineman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund James. Miss Margaret Evans returned home Tuesday from a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Siviter of Pittsburg. Harry, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Englehart, is confined to his home with an attack of grip. Late News of County Miss Gertrude Schwab of Loretto is the guest of the Misses Barry of No. 310 Main street, Johnstown, having arrived last Monday evening to remain for some time. Miss Griffith Very Ill Miss Mabel Griffith, daughter of Daniel Griffith of near this place, is critically ill with typhoid fever, which she contracted while nursing a typhoid patient at Vintondale recently. Until a short time ago, Miss Griffith was at the Memorial Hospital in Johnstown in training as a nurse. She found recently that she was not able to stand the work and returned home. Not long ago she was called to nurse a patient at Vintondale and soon took sick herself with typhoid fever. Her condition the early part of the week was quite serious, she later rallied, however, and at this writing is resting much easier. Miss Mattie Griffith, a sister of the young lady, arrived here Monday morning from New Cambria, Mo. Foreigners Make Bad Threats Altoona, Jan. 15 This city is excited over the report yesterday that Italians had threatened to poison the waters of the reservoirs at the Horseshoe Curve in the event that Jim Ferrie, who married his American wife last Friday, is hanged. These reservoirs supply the city with water and naturally, much alarm is felt.
