Friday, 8 Mar 1907 Volume 41, Number 10 Items Local and Personal The worst blizzard of the winter struck this vicinity Tuesday evening. The air was filled with flying snow which completely obscured the vision and although it was not very cold, it was simply impossible to travel as the horses soon became blinded and would wander from the road. George Gurley, the well known High street merchant of Ebensburg, who has been confined to his bed with erysipelas for several days is now much improved. Edward Griffith has been conducting Mr. Gurley's store during his illness. Misses Ruth and Beatrice Finn, daughters of Policeman John Finn, of the East ward, visited friends in Allegheny township during this week. Russell Leech came home on Tuesday evening from Mercersburg college for the Easter vacation and Robert will arrive next week. The Misses Slattery of Cresson and Miss Nellie Murphy of Loretto spent last Thursday with Miss May Pruner of this place. John Cunningham of Nant-y-Glo was in Ebensburg attending court the early part of the week. Howard Burns of this place has sold his driving horse to T. P. Burns of Nant-y-Glo. Cord Snyder and family of Snowshoe are the guests of the family of Fred D. Barker, Esq. J. Bert Denny of Johnstown came to the county seat Tuesday. Frank A. Good of Nicktown was in town on business this week. William Smith Jr. is home from college for the Easter vacation. Harry Lieb of Heshbon spent Sunday with his parents in this place. Rev. Russell of Pittsburg occupied the Presbyterian pulpit Sunday. James McBreen, who had been ill for some time, is able to be about again. Mrs. M. J. Luther spent Sunday in Hastings visiting friends and relatives. Milton Isenberg has accepted the position of janitor at the Davis building. Ex-Sheriff George M. Wertz of Johnstown was an Ebensburg visitor Thursday. Late News of County The vacancy in the clerical force of the First National Bank of Spangler caused by the resignation of J. Ward Hile has been filled by the appointment of John A. E. Smith. Edward Allen, the Spangler druggist, has on exhibition a large and valuable pearl which was found in an oyster by Policeman John Hefferen. Mr. Hefferen has been offered a large sum of money for the precious stone but declines to sell until he learns its true value.
