Mr. Jones was at the battle of Gettysburg and took part in the famous charge from little Round Top when the rebels were driven back over the wheat field by the Devil's Den. Little Round Top was a strategic point and the 11th Reserves were ordered to hold it at all hazards and Col. Jackson and his brave boys held it against great odds. All honor to Phil Jones, may he live to take part in many future Decoration Days. Horse Thieves Took Their Pick Horse thieves, bold and deliberate, operated at Loretto and St. Augustine Saturday and despite a net work of police traps set for them, are still at large and in possession of valuable animals belonging to A. M. Burkhart and Silas Douglass, both of St Augustine. The Burkhart steed is a small bay mare weighting about 900 pounds with a white stripe on the face and a white hind foot. The other is a hollow backed dun horse weighing 1,100 or 1,200 pounds. The thieves began at Loretto where they got a horse and a new buggy belonging to a man named Carney. They then drove to St. Augustine and looked over a lot of vehicles hitched outside a hall where a dance was in progress. As the Carney horse was pretty tired by this time, they discarded it for the Burkhart mare, but retained the new buggy. The Douglass outfit was taken, rig and all. County Detective Berkebile has been informed of the affair and has notified the police in this and adjoining counties to be on the look out for the thieves.
