Friday, 28 Jun 1907 Volume 41, Number 26 Local and Personal Reuel Somerville, Esq. of Patton was a visitor to Ebensburg today. Mrs. W. Milt Brown of Johnstown is visiting relatives in this place. The Hon. Frank P. Barnhart of Johnstown was in Ebensburg today. William Williams, Esq. of Johnstown was here today on professional business. Daniel Hanlan, a well known farmer residing in the vicinity of Ashville, was in town Wednesday. Isaac Wissinger, a well known farmer of Blacklick Township, drove in and spent a few hours in town today. County Detective James L. Berkebile of Ebensburg was among relatives near Stoyestown Saturday night and Sunday. Hon. A. V. Barker is spending this week in Hanover, N. H., attending the 35th reunion of his class at Dartmouth College. John W. Kephart, Esq. of Ebensburg has purchased a Winton automobile and is now posting himself on the many mysteries connected with the machine. Fire was discovered in a bureau in the house occupied by Harry James in Barker's row Sunday afternoon. The blaze was extinguished with little difficulty and no great damage was done. Mrs. Harriet Davis, wife of R. R. Davis, of the East Ward, lies at her home in a critical condition and it is feared she will not recover. Mrs. Davis is sixty-eight years of age and is suffering from a severe attack of heart trouble. Mr. Orrie Fleming, Miss Rosie Ahles, Mr. Romalies Sherry, Miss Sebina Ahles, Mr. Bert Sherry and Miss Nellie Fleming, all of Cambria Township, enjoyed a drive to Carrolltown Sunday evening where they spent several hours with friends. Lady Postmaster at Summerhill Emma E. Sherbine has been appointed Postmaster at Summerhill, Cambria County, vice J. D. Plummer, resigned. Awards at St. Francis College The annual distribution of awards among the students of St. Francis' College, at Loretto, was of a most interesting and satisfactory character. The distribution being: Gold medal for highest average in mathematics: Raphael Garcia of Puebla, Mexico; gold pin for faithful practice in music: Raymond Portillo of Mexico City, Mexico. College diplomas in the commercial course were awarded as follows: John L. Willis, Cresson; Eugene F. Willis, Cresson; Raphael Garcia, Puebla, Mexico; William J. Fry, Conemaugh; Anthony Bratigam, Monessen; Charles Fahey, Pittsburg. Certificates of proficiency in phonography and typewriting were awarded to Cecil A. Cherry, Conemaugh; Percy J. Cassidy, Conemaugh; William J. Mellon, Sheridanville; John L. Willis, Cresson; Eugene F. Willis, Cresson. Barnesboro Dam Burst Barnesboro experienced one of the hardest storms in recent years on Saturday afternoon. The large storage dam above the Barnes Tucker mines burst and flooded the mines, which were closed all day Sunday but were opened again Monday morning. The private office of O. C. Campbell of the H. & C. Telephone Company was set on fire by a bolt of lightning following the wires, but the flames were extinguished before much damage was done.
