Friday, 24 Jan 1908 Volume 42, Number 4 **[Paper partially faded] Local and Personal Saturday Albert Shoemaker, Richard Tibbott, Joseph Davis, in company with Mr. Miller, went out to Kaylor bottoms in quest of game. They rounded up one red fox and two gray foxes, Mr. Miller having shot all three of them, thereby winning the championship. Officer Alex Covers of Johnstown on Thursday delivered to jail warden Edward Knee a prisoner named George Pabal, charged with assault and battery. The offense for which the man was arrested occurred in Johnstown. James Gramley of Spangler spent several hours in town yesterday between trains. He was on his way to Lock Haven to make the last payment on a home which he purchased there for his father, Lewis Gramley. The portly form and smiling face of Thomas Murray, postmaster at Mountaindale, was noticed in the city this morning. He came hither to transact a little business at the court house. The Rev. Joseph A. Klucker, pastor of the Christian Church, has fully recovered from the effects of the grip and will conduct services as usual at his church next Sunday. Miss Ada Lloyd, who for some time past has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Nettie Fitzgerald at South Fork, has returned home Monday from her visit. Philip Shoemaker and his uncle, S. A. Shoemaker, returned from Indiana after spending several days at that place with relatives. Miss Mabel Kline entertained the Mountain Club pleasantly at her home on Railroad avenue Friday evening. Late News of County Griffith J. Lloyd, one of the oldest native-born residents in Cambria Township, is lying dangerously ill at his home following his prostration last Sunday from a paralytic stroke. He is 82 years of age. John Polvick, a discharged miner hailing from Coalport, became too joyful on Main Street Monday afternoon and Officer Finn was obliged to place him in the borough jail to give him a chance to sober up. Home from Hospital W. M. Kimball, the well known proprietor of Metropolitan Hotel, arrived home from Mercy Hospital, Pittsburg, on the 3:14 train Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Kimball, Dr. Jones and a nurse accompanied him. Mr. Kimball was admitted to Mercy Hospital three weeks ago with his health seriously impaired. Under the skillful treatment received there he improved gradually until he was able to return home and it is the hope of all that complete restoration of health may follow. Thursday evening he felt rather weary from the journey but otherwise rested comfortably. Pryce Family Much Afflicted William Pryce, a well known resident of Cambria Township, is lying in a critical condition from an attack of pneumonia. The rest of the Pryce family are also suffering from the same disease. Mr. Pryce's brother, David J. Pryce, died some time ago from pneumonia and an adopted daughter died only about two weeks ago. Will Build Preparatory School Miss Sarah M. Gallagher who conducts a preparatory school for children in Fenwycke Hall, Ebensburg, has purchased the surface of six acres of ground in Cambria Township from the heirs of the late Mrs. Jane Jones. Miss Gallagher will have a preparatory school built on this site which adjoins the property of the Laughlin Memorial Home and is immediately east of the Ebensburg Fair Grounds. The consideration was $90 per acre. Enoch Miller Wins Championship Toga Shot Two Gray and One Red Fox in Kaylor Bottom Saturday Enoch Miller, the congenial Center Street restaurateur, has won the championship of Ebensburg for hunters, succeeding Capt. McClarran, the well known old time hunter, who is credited with having killed more wild game than any man in Cambria County. "Billy" McClarran as he is known is still the recognized authority on game in this county, but has retired from the trail on account of declining years and failing eyesight. Mr. Miller is in the very prime of life and nothing affords him more pleasure than a day in the woods hunting game and when he betakes himself to the wilds there is generally something doing. He is a member of the local club composed of Walter Thompson, Richard Tibbott, Sherman Clemen, Ira Bloom and others. Purchased Darragh Residence Joseph Bengele and family of Gallitzin will become citizens of Ebensburg in the near future, taking abode in the fine Darragh residence on Lloyd street, which Mr. Bengele has just purchased for the sum of $5,000. Four Children Drown in Lake at Coral Sad Skating Disaster in Indiana County on Saturday Four children were drowned in the reservoir at Coral, Indiana County, Saturday morning while skating on the ice. The dead are as follows: Roy Stokes, aged 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Stokes; Sallie McKinley, aged 12; Renie McKinley, aged 11; Charlotte McKinley, aged 8. The 3 McKinley children were daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William McKinley. They had been on the ice but a few minutes when they skated out to the middle of the reservoir where the ice was thin. The little boy who was leading, broke through first and the girls went under a moment later. Another child who had been in the party ran to the coke ovens nearby for help which came too late. The bodies were all recovered. Fred S. White Bradford, Pa., Jan. 23 -- Fred S. White, age twenty-four, who had a wife and two children living here, killed himself at his boarding house in Olean. He was a brakeman employed by the PRR. William C. Loar Greensburg, Pa., Jan. 23 -- William C. Loar, former burgess of Greensburg and a prominent Civil War veteran, committed suicide by shooting, owing to ill health.
