Friday, 19 Jun 1908 Volume 42, Number 25 Local and Personal Irvin Manion and his lady friend of Patton were among Ebensburg friends on Sunday. Fred Beers of Fallen Timber spent Sunday with his friend, Miss Alda Krise of the Cambria House. Mrs. Charles W. Port of this place, left Thursday last for Ft. Wayne, Ind., where she will spend a month visiting the home of her parents. Miss Bertha Carney and lady friend of Pittsburg spent a few days with the former's sister, Mrs. Conrad Anstead in this place. They returned to the Smoky City on Wednesday. Philip Bender, son of Landlord A. E. Bender and wife of Bender Hotel, arrived home Saturday last for his summer vacation from Villa Nova College near Philadelphia, where he had been attending school at that institution for the past year. J. Edward McConnell, a typo of THE FREEMAN office, left Saturday last for Altoona, where he visited friends until Monday, from there he went to Barnesboro to take charge of the mechanical end of the Barnesboro STAR. Mr. McConnell is a good printer and we wish him success in his new position. Local Happenings James Dick, son of T. W. Dick, Esq. and wife of this place, has arrived home from Baltimore where they resided for some years. Mrs. Dick, who is a daughter of J. F. McKenrick, Esq. and wife of this place has been in Ebensburg on a visit for some time past. Ex-Prothonotary C. E. Troxell, now of Glasgow, had business in Ebensburg Tuesday and was warmly greeted by all his old friends here, which included about everybody. Mrs. Thomas Peach and son, Harry, of this place, left on Friday for Chicago, where they will visit Mrs. Peach's daughter, Mrs. Richard Russell for several weeks. Miss. Eliza Jones of North Ebensburg was the guest of her sons, Messrs. R. D. and M. D. Jones last week in Johnstown. Mrs. J. B. Denny and children of Johnstown are spending a few days at their summer home in Ebensburg. Mrs. John H. Brown of Johnstown has returned from Ebensburg where she had been for several days. Misses Mary and Elizabeth Jones of Johnstown are visiting at the Ben Jones farm in Cambria Township. Mrs. M. D. Jones of Johnstown has been among relatives in Ebensburg and vicinity. W. Milton Brown of Johnstown was in Ebensburg Saturday night and Sunday. Philip G. Fenlon of Pittsburg visited his family here over Sunday. Josiah Folsom of Pittsburg is visiting J. A. Folsom in Ebensburg. Detective Acquitted Detective Joseph Napolitano of Johnstown where he is a prominent contractor Monday morning in court here was arraigned before Judge O'Connor on the charge of fatally wounding Elijah Boone, colored. He pleaded not guilty and his trial was begun before the noon adjournment. Constable John Woodchak of Johnstown was the prosecutor in the case again Napolitano. According to the Commonwealth the crime was committed in Johnstown September 14, 1907. Elijah Boone, colored, arrived in the city over the S. & C. Branch of the B. & O. He had some trouble on the train and when he got off he went directly to the store of Cernutti & Puma, Railroad street. He quarreled with the proprietors, hitting one of them over the head with a lantern. One of the proprietors discharged a revolver and Napolitano, who was in that vicinity, attempted to arrest Boone without a warrant, shooting him. Napolitano was acquitted. His First Mass Father Walter O'Hara Will Celebrate His First Mass in Ebensburg on Sunday Father Walter O'Hara, son of Mrs. Anna O'Hara of Julian Street, Ebensburg, who was ordained by Rt. Rev. Father Michael J. Hoban, D. D. at Mt. St. Mary's Seminary, Emmittsburg, Md., on Tuesday last will say his first mass in the church of the Holy Name in this place on Sunday next. Father O'Hara will be assisted in the mass of which, of course, he will be the celebrant by his uncles - Rev. Fathers Thomas Rosensteel of Irwin and Oscar Rosensteel, Washington, as Deacon and Sub-Deacon; by Father Roger F. O'Donnell, President of St. Francis' College, Loretto, as Master of Ceremonies and by Father H. M. O'Neill as Assistant Priest. The sermon will be preached by Dr. F. M. McSweeney, Professor of Theology of Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmittsburg, Md. Ebensburg Pastor Highly Honored The Rev. J. T. Jones has been elected a delegate to the international congress of the Congregational church at Edinburg, Scotland, which begins June 20 and ends July 1. He was selected by the national council of the church and by the state delegation. He is one of the two delegates from Pennsylvania; the other being the Rev. G. R. Lockwood of Philadelphia. The "Congregationalist" of last week announces that he has been selected one of the 20 American ministers who will deliver addresses.
