Friday, 10 Jul 1908 Volume 42, Number 27 Local and Personal Bert Bender of the Hotel Bender recently tore down on the back of his lot along Chestnut Street an old building with a history. It is the building in which the bank of Collins, Johnston & Co., the first bank established in Ebensburg more than forty years ago, was kept when the structure with its overshoot, overhanging the sidewalk, was one of the buildings on Colonnade row on Center street near where O'Hara & Luther's livery stable now stands. The Will of Joseph Bengele Reproduction Probated in [word blurred] of Original Document Which Cannot be Found On Monday of last week a reproduction of the will of the late Joseph Bengele of Gallitzin was admitted to probate in the office of Register and Recorder Arthur Griffith. The will was executed April 1 of this year. Following the death of Mr. Bengele, an unsuccessful search for the document was made by members of his family. All nooks and corners in his house were searched. His office and store were gone over as were other offices with which he was connected. But not a sign of the paper could be found. Attorney Wm. McGuire of this place drew up the will for Mr. Bengele, Attorney Shettig being the witness. On June 26th Register Griffith and Mr. McGuire went to Gallitzin where a number of people were examined as to the contents of the paper and other matters. Following this, Mr. McGuire presented a reproduction of the will, which, he said, differed only slightly in wording from the original. This was filed. In the will Mr. Bengele left his property to his wife on condition that she remain a widow. In the event of her remarriage the property is to go to his children. The widow is named as executrix.
