Friday, 11 Sep 1908 Volume 42, Number 35 Local and Personal J. M. Murdock secured a verdict of $975 for damages to an automobile which, while in charge of a colored chauffeur, was run into by a street car of the Johnstown Passenger Railway Company. The company claimed the chauffer stopped the car on the track. A new trial will be asked for. John J. Kinney and Landlord McKay of the Lake Hotel, South Fork, called at THE FREEMAN office today. Squire James A. Skelly of Wilmore was a visitor in town today. Josephine Pallay got $5 damages from Julia Pap for slander. John Daniels of the First ward, Johnstown, was a juryman at court this week. Matthew B. Nairn of Nant-y-Glo spent Thursday night and today in Ebensburg. Miss Lelia Port of this place spent several days with friends in Johnstown this week. Samuel Lilly, of Summit, well known in this place, is serving as a juror at court here this week. Constable George Inman of Lilly while in attendance at court yesterday was a visitor to THE FREEMAN office. David Irvin, of Hastings, National Organizer, U. M. W. of A. was in Ebensburg on Monday night and Tuesday. Frank B. Cook, Morris Nathan, L. G. Hornick and City Engineer Lee Masterton, of Johnstown, were in Ebensburg Thursday. Ex-Sheriff John A. Blair is again quite ill at his home on High Street. Owing to his advanced age, his recovery is not expected. Andrew Strittmatter of Carroll Township purchased the Illig farm in Allegheny Township Monday last for $1300. The venerable Charles Miller of Loretto was a visitor in Ebensburg on Tuesday and Wednesday last. He is an uncle of Mrs. Daniel A. McGough of this place. Mrs. Joseph K. Love, Mrs. John Morley, Miss Gertrude Hannan, Mrs. George K. Kline, all of Johnstown, and Mrs. Oscar Babcock of Pittsburg, were in Ebensburg this week, coming here in the Love touring car. Among the visitors in Johnstown Thursday were Ex-Mayor and Mrs. Charles Young, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glock and Mr. and Mrs. George W. Swank, all of Johnstown, who came to Ebensburg in Mr. Swank's touring car. Jacob M. Murdock of Johnstown was in Ebensburg Thursday. Mr. Murdock came to the county seat in his big Packard car. If there is an auto enthusiast anywhere it is Mr. Murdock and he is seen in Ebensburg quite frequently. Richard Plunkett, of near Gallitzin, who is serving on the jury this week, is the only man in Cambria county, it is believed, who has had one entire lung removed by surgeons. Other than a shortness of breath, Mr. Plunkett declares that he feels as fine as he ever did. David Ehrenfeld has Leg Crushed David Ehrenfeld, a brother of Henry Ehrenfeld of Lilly, had the misfortune to have his leg crushed in a turn table in Pittsburg. Some years ago Mr. Ehrenfeld, then employed on the railroad, had the misfortune to have one of his legs cut off in an accident on the road, after recovery from which accident, he wore a wooden leg. He was then given employment at a round house in Pittsburg and yesterday had the misfortune to lose his second leg. He is 58 years of age and lives with his daughter, his wife having died some years ago. Gets New Automobile Supt. J. Wm. Marsteller of the Pennsylvania Beech Creek & Eastern Coal & Coke Company arrived in Ebensburg today with his new 60-horse power six-cylinder Steven-Duryea touring car, which was purchased for him by his company. Will Visit Niagara Falls and in Canada Ambrose Schettig of the firm of Schettig Bros., hardware dealers of this place, in company with his wife, who has been spending some time at the home of her parents in Blandburg, left the latter place this (Friday) morning for Clearfield from which place they will go to Niagara City, where they will spend several days taking in the sights and from there, will go into Canada and make a trip up the St. Lawrence river, where Mrs. Schettig has relatives residing with whom they will visit. They expect to be away several weeks. McConnell-Fletcher J. Ed McConnell, recently a typo in THE FREEMAN office and now foreman in the office of the Barnesboro STAR, will be married September 22nd to Miss Grace Fletcher of No. 4044 Second Avenue, Altoona. The couple will make their home in Barnesboro. Tibbott-Humphreys Wedding The approaching wedding of more than usual interest to Ebensburg people is that of Druggist Harvey Tibbott and Miss Eldora Humphreys which will take place at noon Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the home of the bride's parents, Court Crier and Mrs. E. J. Humphreys of Crawford St. The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. J. Twyson Jones of the Congregational church. The young people are well known not only in Ebensburg but throughout the county. The bride is an exceedingly popular young lady, while the bridegroom is junior member of the Tibbott Drug Company. Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Tibbott will enjoy a honeymoon trip. Upon their return they will make their home in a new residence on Horner street.
