Bakerton Officers Charged with Crime [Court News] - Extracts The case in which Constable James J. Henry and Justice Harry Bostick of Bakerton ware charged with extortion and permitting Andy Kralley, who was accused of murder, to escape came up for trial Thursday afternoon in Judge Frazer's court. A number of witnesses were placed on the stand, among them Andy Kralley, who was convicted of manslaughter yesterday. As in his own case, he proved a good witness and told a damaging story against the two defendants. [Snip] A particularly nasty case for the city of Johnstown occupied the attention of Judge O'Connor's court in the large room in the court house Monday. Starting at 1 o'clock, almost all of the afternoon was taken up in hashing and rehashing the details of as obscene an action as has ever been brought to the attention of the court. The defendants in this case were Andrew Gates, Grover Craig, Edward Kraft and Webster Craig. The prosecutor was James K. Myers, on behalf of his 14-year-old daughter, Alma Myers. All of the parities concerned live in Morrellville. The jury found all four defendants guilty in manner and form as indicted. It was alleged by the prosecution that the four young men named, April 20 last, took the young girl to a secluded spot back of the Bheam street school house, compelled her to drink whisky until she became helpless and then assaulted her. The defense denied the allegations of rape and endeavored to show that the girl was of a bad character. A witness for the defense said that he had been told by the father of one of the defendants that he was "to go to Ebensburg and run down the girl's character."
