Friday, 23 Feb 1912 Volume 45, Number 8 Father in Trouble Dr. Bertha Caldwell Sunday night lodged in the Johnstown police station a 13-year-old foreign girl whose home has been in the neighborhood of Nanty-Glo and who is about to become a mother. According to the statement of the girl, her father is responsible for her condition and he has been missing for a few days. Officers sent to arrest him were not able to locate the fellow and it is believed he has left the state. Dr. Caldwell will land her charge in one of the homes in Pittsburg and will make arrangements with a view of having her properly cared for. Narrow Escape Five year old John Cole of Johnstown coasted directly in front of a runaway team recently. Somehow the horses' hoofs didn't strike him and his sled wedged into one of the runners of the big bob. The team dashed on until it struck an iron fence. The horses were badly cut but the boy escaped with bruises. Measles Spreading That the "measles will get you, if you don't watch out," has more of truth than of poetry about it as testified to by the physicians of Ebensburg who have their hands full because of the spread of the ailment. Measles was brought to Ebensburg from Cresson before Christmas and since that time has been sweeping all through the county seat. A regiment of measles-scarred veterans might be recruited here with great ease. Mrs. Helfrick Hurt Mrs. T. O. Helfrick, wife of a well known Spangler physician, was the victim of a peculiar accident a few days ago when she was struck by the hoof of a horse which was passing a sleigh in which she was riding. Returned from Hospital Mrs. Walter Whitley, wife of the pastor of the Baptist church of this place, and Miss Della Shaub, have been spending some time in Philadelphia and Lancaster City, Miss Shaub having had to undergo a serious operation which was performed in the hospital at Lancaster. The operation was successful and they both returned home Friday of last week after an absence of six weeks. Miss Shaub is improving slowly. Home from the South Robert Ferguson of Ebensburg has returned home from Florida where he spent a couple of weeks in the everglade portion or near that portion He had a very enjoyable time, he declared and not only did the legendary trick of plucking oranges from the trees but he bathed in the gulf of Mexico. The weather of Florida is slightly different just now from that of Cambria county. No Marriages in Lent Starting last Wednesday until Easter few if any marriages will be celebrated among local Catholics. The rules of the church forbid the celebration of the sacrament with the nuptial mass while Lent and Advent are on and few marriages, except in the case of those between a Catholic and a Protestant, are celebrated without a mass. It is possible to be married in Lent but the ceremony is rarely performed then. Miss Darragh Marries The marriage of Miss Roselyn Darragh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Angus J. Darragh of South Negley avenue, Pittsburg, to Angus J. McDonnell of Montreal, Canada, took place yesterday morning at 9 o'clock in the Sacred Heart church. Rev. Francis J. Keane officiated. Miss Elizabeth J. Darragh was her sister's honor maid while Irvine Dibble of Montreal acted as best man. The wedding breakfast at the bride's home followed the ceremony. The at-home cards announce after May 1 in Montreal. {DISPATCH, Wednesday)
