Friday, 25 Oct 1912 Volume 45, Number 42 Personal Mention Mrs. J. B. Denny and family have returned to their home on Walnut Street, Johnstown, after spending the summer in Ebensburg. M. D. Kittell and family and Mr. Kittell's sister, Mrs. M. K. Collins, all of Ebensburg, left Wednesday night for Atlantic City. County Treasurer Lester Larimer, A. W. Buck and Fergus Lloyd, three prominent Ebensburgers left Tuesday in an automobile trip to Windber, where they spent the day. While in Johnstown they were registered at the Merchants' Hotel. Nicktown News John Kline is having his house repaired. Carpenter Jacob Kirsch is doing the work. P. J. Gens went after chestnuts last Sunday afternoon but did not take the barber along with him. Mr. Gens is a great man for his chestnuts on Sunday afternoon. Frank Shank of Altoona was in town Saturday to get a good shave by the Nicktown barber. George Woods made a flying business trip to Hastings Saturday. N. F. Lambour has had new spouting put on his residence the past week. Michael Lantzy of Spangler was a visitor in town Friday. Gallitzin Notes Gallitzin, Oct. 24 David DeCosta, a prominent Italian merchant of Gallitzin, was stabbed in the back Wednesday night in attempting to save his daughter, Terese, aged 17, from George Martin who wielded the knife. DeCosta is now in the Altoona Hospital and will live. Martin was captured soon after the stabbing affray. Suit was filed here last Friday by Eliza Goenner, Catharine Stibich and Stella M. Stibich, executors of the estate of John Stibich, operating the Goenner Brewing company plant in Johnstown, to recover a balance of $609.76 on the book account from Marcus Wohl. Silas Wherry is in Hospital Silas Wherry, a Civil War veteran of Ebensburg, is a patient at the Johnstown City hospital suffering from kidney trouble. He is about 75 years old and fought in the 55th Regiment, Pennsylvania volunteer infantry. Mr. Wherry is an uncle of Dr. Leighton Wherry Jones of Johnstown who is attending him. Portage Constable Shot in Left Side Constable Mart Madigan of Portage is at his home in Portage with a .32-caliber shot wound in his left side. The bullet entered the officer's left side three or four inches below the nipple, lodging in his back. The shooting took place last Monday night, along about midnight, when the officer, it is said, attempted to apprehend three foreigners who where entering one of Portage stores, when one of the trio opened fire. Constable Madigan walked to the office of Dr. J. F. Schofield where the bullet was removed Tuesday morning. Graham to be Admitted to the Bar Going over the heads of the Bar Examining Committee, Judge M. B. Stephens Wednesday directed Attorney Philip N. Shettig, chairman of the committee, to make a motion for the admission of James A. Graham of Johnstown to the Cambria Bar. The motion was made. Priests Transferred Rev. Father Otto, formerly pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic church, Johnstown, arrived here Tuesday evening and will take the place of Father Amandus Kramer, who has been Prior here for the past eight years and who was ordered to Erie, Pa. In parting with Prior Kramer, we, in common with the others here feel a sadness that must be felt in parting with a dear friend who has done so much for the spiritual welfare of this congregation and the improvement of the place. Rev. Father Otto, we have no doubt, will soon gain the love and respect of all and we hope his stay among us will be a pleasant one. (Carrolltown NEWS) Kaylor to be Ebensburg Station After October 31, the name of Kaylor Station will be changed to Ebensburg Junction. Shippers were occasioned much annoyance by the Kaylor in Cambria county and a Kaylor in Armstrong county. Brakeman Falls Between Cars Hastings, Oct. 23 Martin Fogarty, a brakeman on the Pennsylvania Railroad, fell between cars in this place late yesterday afternoon and was fatally injured. He was rushed to the Spangler Hospital where he died at 8:30 o'clock. Fogarty was 25 years old and was single. He formerly lived in Patton. One leg was badly crushed and his right arm fractured.
