Friday, 31 May 1912 Volume 45, Number 22 Ernest Apel Dead The many friends of Ernest Apel were shocked to learn that he had died in Braddock Tuesday night. He had not been in good health for some time. He visited his relatives here a short time ago and seemed to be on the way to complete recovery. He took a turn for the worse a few days ago, suffering from something like a stroke and he never regained consciousness. The cause of his death was paresist. [as spelled in newspaper] Ernest Apel was the oldest son of Justus and Catherine Apel, being born on what is now known as the D. L. Owens farm in Cambria township. As soon as he was old enough he entered the tannery with his father and learned the trade. About 22 years ago he left his home here and located in Pueblo, Colorado, and he became an iron worker. He lived there about 16 years and then came to Braddock about eight years ago where he embarked in the same business in which he was engaged in up to the time of his death. He was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth, daughter of the late Robert R. Jones of Cambria Township. She died in Pueblo, Col., Oct. 15, 1901. In 1905 he was married to Miss Emma Davis of Cambria township who survives him. He is also survived by his father and these brothers and sister: Albert of Ebensburg; John of Homestead; Herman and Sophia, both of Ebensburg. He was a manly man and was a distinct credit to the citizenship of any community. This paper extends its sympathy to the bereaved. The remains were brought to this place and buried Friday at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mahon, formerly pastor of the Christian church, had charge of the services assisted by Rev. Guernsey.
