Bell of Nant-y-Glo Shocks His Friends Death Came Suddenly Residents of Ebensburg and the entire north of the county were greatly surprised and shocked when they learned of the death on Monday morning of Charles Edward Bell, proprietor of the Home Hotel at Nant-y-Glo and one of the best known and popular men in the county. Ill only a few days, Mr. Bell's death was entirely unexpected. He had been a chronic sufferer from Bright's disease but the ailment was not thought to be of a very serious nature. The deceased was born in Binghamton, N. Y., and was aged 62 years and nine months. He has been in Cambria County for the last ten years. For the last three years he had been in the hotel business at Nant-y-Glo and this hostelry had risen high in the estimation of the public during the time Mr. Bell had charge of it. Mr. Bell came to Cambria County from Williamsport and for seven years was in the lumber business at Nant-y-Glo before going into the hotel business. In Williamsport, Mr. Bell was in the lumber business for 32 years. He was well known in that city. During the Civil War Mr. Bell served in one of the New York volunteer regiments. Despite the fact that he was almost 63 years of age, Mr. Bell had the appearance of a man of 50. There were services at Nant-y-Glo on Wednesday morning. The remains were then taken to Williamsport for interment Thursday. The funeral Thursday was in charge of the Masons of which Mr. Bell was a member high in standing. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Masons and the Knight Templar. The deceased is survived by his wife, five daughters and two sons.
