Friday, 20 Jan 1905 Volume 39, Number 2 Death of John Bender John Bender of Altoona died at his home in that city Thursday morning from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy with which he had been seized on Monday. Mr. Bender was seventy-six years of age at the time of his death. He was born in Carroll township, this county, and resided there until twenty-three years ago when he moved to Ebensburg where he became proprietor of the old Cambria House and lived here for eleven years. Twelve years ago he moved to Altoona and lived there until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Buser and three sons and three daughters: A. E. Bender, proprietor of the Hotel Bender, Ebensburg; Vincent of Altoona; Frank, a soldier in the United States army now stationed in the Philippines; Mrs. Melinda Burns of Altoona; Mary of Altoona and Mrs. Maud Bradley of Gallitzin. Deceased was a faithful member of the Catholic church and at the time of his death was a member of St. John's Pro-Cathedral congregation. The funeral took place Monday morning at 9 o'clock in St. John's Pro- Cathedral, Altoona, and interment followed in Calvary cemetery.
