Former Resident Dead 

Word has been received in Ebensburg of the death at Salina, 
Kas., of   Mrs. Mary A. Berg, a native of Cambria County, 
at the age of 88 years, three months and three days.  She 
was born near Ebensburg Dec. 11, 1820.  There is a romance 
connected with her marriage in 1841 to the late Peter Berg.  
The maiden name of the deceased was Shoup and it was while 
at a picnic party on the site of the South Fork dam that 
she met the man she wedded.  The family moved to Kansas in 
1874 where they had since resided.  Peter Berg died in 
1881.  Older residents of Ebensburg and vicinity well 
recall the Berg family.  The deceased woman is survived by 
eight children, 36 grandchildren and 20 great 
grandchildren.
