All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/cambria/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Cambria Freeman Ebensburg, PA Friday, 19 Nov 1909 Volume 43, Number 47 Nephews Carry Remains to Grave Funeral of Mrs. John Buck Held at Carrolltown Tuesday Carrolltown, Nov. 18 -- Twelve nephews of the late Mrs. Rachel Buck of Carrolltown, who died suddenly last Friday evening, were the pallbearers at the well known woman's funeral here on Tuesday morning. The funeral was very largely attended. Mrs. Buck died while sitting in a chair, death evidently being due to paralysis of the heart. Mrs. Buck's maiden name was Sherry and she was born in Alsace, then a French possession, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sherry and came to this country when three years old. In 1849 she was married to John Buck by the Rev. Father Joseph Gallagher. John Buck was Sheriff of Cambria County for one term in the early '60s. He was postmaster of Carrolltown under Grant. At one time, also, he was a member of the state legislature. The following children survive Mrs. Buck: A. W. Buck of Ebensburg; Mrs. James Scanlon of Ebensburg; C. A. Buck of Carrolltown; Dr. M. J. Buck of Pittsburg; S. H. Buck of Elyria, O.; Dr. James P. Buck of Chicago; A. Z. Buck of Braddock; Edward Buck of Tonopah, Nev.; Vincent J. Buck of Turtle Creek; Mrs. James B. Eck of Carrolltown and M. L. Buck of Hastings. One of her children died many years ago. In addition, 48 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive. As stated the funeral was held Tuesday morning from the Catholic Church in Carrolltown, a requiem high mass being said. The pallbearers were as follows: F. C. Sharbaugh, Bert Sharbaugh, Charles Buck, James M. Buck, Michael Buck, Bede Buck, Leo Buck, D. Buck, Andrew Buck, Joseph Buck, Garvis Sherry and Frank Sherry. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.
