Friday, 20 Sep 1907 Volume 41, Number 38 Death of Herman Burkey Herman Burkey, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Burkey of the Centre Ward, died at the home of his parents Sunday evening at about 6 o'clock, in the eighteenth year of his age. Mr. Burkey contracted a severe attack of quinsy on Sunday, September 2nd and suffered terribly with the disease all week. Several days ago his tonsils became almost closed. The disease affected both sides of his throat. Death is said to have resulted from the dissemination of poison through his system caused by the breaking of the abscesses inside this throat. Sunday afternoon he recognized his parents and sister but about 4 o'clock became unconscious and died. Herman Burkey is survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters as follows: William Burkey of Altoona; Frank Burkey, who is now in one of the Dakotas; Annie, married and living in Altoona and Miss Cornelia, at home. The funeral took place Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from the Church of the Holy Name, of which the deceased had been a life-long member. A requiem high mass was celebrated by Father H. M. O'Neil, the pastor, and interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
