		Aged Miner Will Be Buried At Ashville
		Special to the Tribune

	Portage, October 3- Funeral Services for Jacob Chirdon, the aged miner who was killed 
yesterday at his first day of work in Benscreek No. 3 mine of the Hughes Coal Company, will be 
held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville.  The body will be 
taken to Ashville tomorrow afternoon by Undertaker Buck, of this place.

	Mr. Chirdon was 62 years old and spent most of his life in Ashville and Gallitzin.  He is 
survived by his widow, Mrs. Ellen Chirdon, and the following children: Alvin, Ashville; Martin, 
Trenton, N.J.; Clarence, Scranton; Frances, wife of Wallace Hoyer and Cecilia, wife of Ellis 
Michaels, both of Beaverdale.

	PA Certificate of Death, file # 99922-29: Jacob Edward Chirdon; white male; married; 
born 05 Feb 1867 in Carrolltown, PA; died 02 Oct 1929, age 62 years, in Washington, Cambria 
County, PA.  Occupation- coal miner.  Wife's name- Ellie Chirdon.  Father's name- Michael 
Chirdon.  Mother's name- Susan Delosier.  Buried 05 Oct 1929 in Ashville, PA, Undertaker 
Harold Buch, Portage, PA.  Informant Mrs. Ellie Chirdon, Cassandra, PA.  Filed 04 Oct 1929.

Additional Comments:
	According to the mine's accident report, the cause of death was "fall of coal-face of air 
course", and had occurred at 11:25 a.m.
