Thursday, April 11, 1861 Volume 2, Number 34 Died at his residence at Cresson, this county, on Tuesday morning, 9th inst., Mr. James S. Clark, aged about 40 years. The deceased was a well known and highly respected citizen of our county. He was formerly a resident of this town, but for about two years past has filled the position of ticket agent on the Pennsylvania Railroad at Cresson. By his demise the community in which he resided loses a valuable citizen, his wife a kind husband, and his children a fond and indulgent parent. He lived and died a sincere Christian. May he rest in peace! The friends of the deceased are invited to attend the funeral from his residence today (Thursday) at 10 o'clock. The Alleghanian, Ebensburg, Pa. Thursday April 18, 1861 Volume 2, Number 35 James S. Clark, Dec'd. - On the death of the above gentleman being made public, special meetings were called by the A. Y. M. and the S. of T., of which societies the deceased was a member and the following resolutions were adopted: At a special communication of Summit Ledge, No. 312, A. Y. M., held at Mason's Hall, Ebensburg, April 9th, A. L. 5861, the death of Bro. James S. Clark being announced, the following Preamble and Resolutions were adopted: Whereas: It having pleased the Almighty Disposer of events to take from our midst our much esteemed Bro. James S. Clark, whose wise and kind conciliatory course was so materially useful with us in the present prosperous working of our order and whose discreet and philosophic life honored Masonry, and endeared him to all with whom he has been associated, therefore, Resolved, that in the Providence of God, who has taken our beloved Brother James S. Clark, from our midst, to the rest prepared for the just and good above, we, the of the whole Masonic family, have been called upon to part with one, who, by his uniform and wise acts, was entitled to a high position in our Councils and was endeared to each one of us personally. Resolved, that in his untiring efforts to advance knowledge of the wisdom contained in the Ancient and Accepted Rite, he nobly battled again prejudice, yet by his uniform kind manner he was respected and esteemed by all. Resolved, that as a faithful token of our esteem and remembrance we will clothe our Lodge Room in mourning for the space of sixty days. Resolved, that a copy of the above Resolution be handed to the family of our departed brother, and that they be published in papers of this place. David J. Jones, C. T. Roberts, D. C. Zahm, Committee At a meeting of Highland Division, No. 84, S. of T., held April 9th, 1861, the undersigned were appointed a committee to draft resolutions expressive of the feelings of the Division on the death of Bro. James S. Clark.: Whereas it has pleased God in His Providence to remove from our midst our beloved Bro. Jas. S. Clark, we cannot permit the sorrowful circumstance to pass without paying to his memory a tribute of respect, therefore, Resolved, that in the death of Bro. Clark, we have lost an esteemed member. Temperance, a warm and consistent advocate, Society, an honest man and his family an affectionate husband and a devoted father. Resolved, that we extend to the afflicted family of the deceased our sympathy, with the assurance that our long and intimate acquaintance justifies the belief that he is now in His presence which is better than life. Resolved, that in remembrance of our departed Brother, the Division room be clothed in mourning for thirty days.
