Thursday, 3 Mar 1864 Volume 5, Number 23 Hon. Geo. A. Coffey Hon. Geo. A. Coffee, U. S. District Attorney for the eastern district of this State died suddenly in Philadelphia on Saturday week last of paralysis. He was a native of Indiana county, a cousin of Maj. White, late Senator and now a prisoner in Richmond, and a brother of Hon. Titian J. Coffey, Assistant Attorney General. He was a graduate of Dickinson College and at an early age entered the Methodist ministry, where he rose to great distinction – having filled the leading stations of that church at Washington and Baltimore. About 1853 he was admitted to the bar and has since devoted himself to the practice of the law. He was an earnest and active politician and a brilliant man.
