Colbert Johnstown Tribune-Democrat 19 Nov 1964 Dr. Colbert, Dentist, Dies At Age of 70 Served With City School System for More Than 40 Years Dr. Charles R. Colbert, local practitioner and Johnstown School System dentist for more than 40 years, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital. He was 70. Dr. Colbert, of 130 Hammer Avenue, was instrumental as a member of the former Municipal Music Pavilion Commission in the building of the Roxbury Park Bandshell. Began Practice in 1924 Upon being graduated from the dental school of the University of Pittsburgh in 1924, Dr. Colbert returned to Johnstown--his native city--to establish his practice. Three months after returning here, he was named dentist for the school system. Dr. Colbert, who took his pre-dental studies at Pitt, was a drum major for that school's band. He served 2 terms as president of the Pitt Band Alumni Club. He was a 1917 graduate of Johnstown High School where he played football and basketball. Headed Dental Staff Dr. Colbert was elected head of the dental staff of Memorial Hospital in 1951. He was active for many years in Cambria County Chapter, American Red Cross, serving as local chairman of the chapter's speakers' bureau in the 1951 fund drive. In 1960, Dr. Colbert was appointed Cambria County chairman for the U.S. Olympic Fund Committee. Born July 21, 1894, in Johnstown, son of Jacob M. and Catherine (Esterly) Colbert. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Mrs. Elsie Colbert Farley. Survived by widow, former Alice Leffler; son, Charles R. Jr., 844 Vickroy Avenue, and daughter, Mrs. Alice R. Diehl, Millhall, Pa.; also grandson, Charles R. Colbert III. Member of Franklin Street Methodist Church; Conemaugh Lodge 278, F. & A.M.; Connell 32, Royal Select Masons; Portage Royal Arch Chapter 195; Knights Templar 65; Williamsport Consistory; Jaffa Shrine; Forest 127, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; American Dental Society; Cambria County Dental Society; Johnstown Post 294, American Legion; Voiture 23, 40 et 8, and Johnstown Varsity Letter Club. World War I veteran. Friends received at John Henderson Funeral Home, 215 Central Avenue, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Paul J. Meuschke. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
