All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ William Colbert Johnstown Tribune 11 Jun 1917 WILLIAM COLBERT, OF COOPERSDALE, DIES SUDDENLY Cambria Steel Company Pensioner Became Ill While Conversing on Street HE WAS BORN IN VIRGINIA William Colbert, aged 79 years, died unexpectedly this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Warsing, 19 Cooper avenue, Twenty first Ward. Mr. Colbert was a Cambria Steel Company pensioner, having been retired about nine years ago. He left the Warsing home shortly after 9 o'clock this morning and was conversing with a neighbor at the corner of Royer and Butler streets when he became suddenly ill and started for his home. As he entered the residence he collapsed and a physician was sent for but Mr. Colbert could not be revived and passed away shortly before 10 o'clock. William Colbert was born in the State of Virginia in July, 1838, and was a child when his parents, Robert and Rebecca Colbert, located in this section. The deceased was a brother of Mrs. Helen Wonderly, Mrs. Ellen Vann, Miss Matilda Colbert and Otho Colbert. In 1860, the deceased and Nancy Hess were married in this city, Mrs. Colbert having passed away at the Colbert home on Royer street in April, 1912. William Colbert is survived by these children: John Wesley, of Morrellville; Samuel, of Greensburg; Mrs. Rebecca Warsing and Jacob Colbert, of the Twenty-first Ward; Gilbert Scott, of Market street; Francis of Duquesne, and Bertha Irene, of Pittsburg. The late Mrs. Sylvester Kunkle was also a daughter of the deceased. The deceased was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He united with the mission below Coopersdale and was one of the organizers of the Cooper avenue congregation. For many years he was a member of the Official Board and was a class leader for some 30 years. The time of the funeral will be announced tomorrow.
