All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/cambria/ Cambria Freeman Ebensburg, PA Friday, 19 Nov 1909 Volume 43, Number 47 Pioneer of Cambria County Passes Away William Cole of Patton, Died at 80 Years, Leaves 16 Children William Cole, one of the pioneer residents of Cambria County, died at his home at Patton Sunday morning at 2 o'clock in his eightieth year, leaving almost one hundred descendents. The deceased was born in Germany, but was brought to America by his parents when but two years of age and had been a resident of Cambria County ever since, his parents settling near Ebensburg. During the active days of his life he was engaged in the lumber business and conducted a chain of saw mills. He was instrumental in the clearing of several hundred acres in Cambria County which are now embraced in fertile farming land. Mr. Cole was twice married and was the father of 16 children. His first wife, who bore him four children, died many years ago and 14 children were born to him of the second union. Among the survivors are 14 children, 60 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. Otto Lauer and Mrs. John Burley of Carrolltown; Mrs. Henry Lauer of Coupon; A. B. Cole, formerly of Altoona, but now of Maryland; George V. of Dysart; Joseph of Virginia; Mrs. E. W. Inlow of Pittsburg; Mrs. Charles Lightner of Johnstown; Michael, Frank, Henry and Clair, at home and Peter of Altoona. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Patton and the funeral was held at that place Tuesday morning and interment at Carrolltown followed.
