Friday, 3 Feb 1911 Volume 45, Number 5 Miss Sarah Collins Miss Sarah Collins, widely known in this county, died Wednesday at her home at Bellefonte where she had resided for the last 20 years, aged 74 years, 6 months and 19 days. Death was due to general debility and a complication of diseases and came after an illness of several weeks. The end had been expected by her friends for the last few days. Funeral services will be held at Bellefonte Friday morning after which the remains were brought to Ebensburg for interment. The deceased was the last of the Collins family which was at one time famous in this vicinity. She was a daughter of Peter and Sarah Meloy Collins and was born at Munster, this county. When the railroad was constructed to Ebensburg the family moved to this place and her father and two brothers, Philip and Thomas, became famous as railroad contractors. The two sons were in charge of the famous Brazilian railroad project which met disaster a third of a century ago. In the Collins family, which, while in Ebensburg, resided at the place where Hotel Bender now stands, there were seven sons and five daughters as follows: Philip; James; Thomas; Cornelius; John, who died in infancy; Peter; John; Elizabeth; Catherine; Mary, wife of James Henry; Ellen, wife of Edward Shoemaker; and Sara, the last to pass away.
