Ebensburg lost one of its oldest and most highly respected residents Tuesday afternoon, January 3, at 1 o'clock when Dr. Clark Leander Creery expired suddenly at his home on North Julian Street. Dr. Creery, who was 70 years old, had been ill of a heart condition for the past three months. Clark L. Creery was Ebensburg's oldest dental surgeon and his death terminated a practice of 35 years at this place. He had been known as one of the most thorough dentists in the county, with a high reputation built upon the quality of his work. Dr. Creery was born at Cherry Tree, September 9, 1868, a son of Dr. M. R. B. and Elizabeth (Isenberg) Creery, both deceased. He came from of of the earliest families located at Cherry Tree, his grandfather and father having been pioneer lumbermen at that section. He removed with his parents to Ebensburg when 11 years old. Later he went in his father's dental office as an apprentice. Sometime after their removal here Dr. M. R. B. Creery suffered a stroke, his young son Clark taking over practically the entire duties of the dental office. At the time he went to the University of Pittsburgh for his diploma (1903) he was already an experienced dentist. He had received his early education in the public schools of Cherry Tree and Ebensburg and in 1903 graduated from the Pittsburgh institution. Upon his return here he resumed his dental practice which covered such a long period. When a young man he was affiliated with local organizations. During the World War he was a member of the Cambria Rifles, a company organized for home defense and was an officer of that group. He was commander of a firing squad here for many years and was behind every patriotic move. For many years he was active in fraternal organizations, having held membership in Highland Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Ebensburg; Summit Lodge, 312 F. & A. M., Ebensburg; Williamsport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, Oriental Commandery, Knights Templar, Johnstown. He was a member of the First Congregational church of this place. He was also an ardent sportsman and unusually active in civic interests and stood squarely behind any enterprise which was for the betterment of his beloved community. Dr. Creery was twice married, his first wife, who preceded him in death, having been Cora (Davis) Creery. Surviving this union is one son, Kenneth, of Somerset, Pa. (14 Jun 1903 - 21 Oct 1972) married to Sarah Jane (2 June --). On June 18, 1907, he was married to Miss Margaret Jane Thomas (18 Feb 1878 - 25 Feb 1964), a daughter of the late John E.
