DAVIS. William H. Davis, a retired postal clerk and veteran of the Civil war, residing at 2714 West Chestnut avenue, died Friday evening at 8.30 o'clock from the effects of a stroke suffered a year ago. He was aged 77. He was born at Cambria county, August 3, 1841, and had served 18 months in the Civil war and had received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the First Congregational church of Ebensburg, of Summit lodge, F. & A.M., of Ebensburg, and the J. M. Jones commandery, G.A.R., of Ebensburg. The following children survive: Mrs. William Davis, at whose home he died, Ira W. Davis, of Patton, and O. W. Davis, of Johnstown, and one brother, G. W., of Ebensburg, and a sister, Mrs. M. J. Griffith, of Houtzdale. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. The remains will be taken to Ebensburg this morning at 7.45 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Lloyd cemetery.
