Wednesday, July 15, 1863 DEAD - Thos. D. Devruex, a citizen of Cambria township, Cambria county, while assisting one of his neighbors at log rolling, was struck with a handspike and injured to such an extent as to cause his death. Note: DEVEREAUX The Alleghanian Ebensburg, Pa. Thursday, 16 Jul 1863 Volume 4, Number 42 Thomas Deveraux Died in Cambria township on Monday, 6th inst., Thomas Deveraux, aged about 19 years. About two weeks previous to his death the deceased had been engaged in rolling logs, when the handspike which he was using escaped from his grasp and struck him upon the breast. Several of his ribs were broken by the force of the blow and the injuries received finally culminated in death. The deceased had been a member of Co. F, 133d Pa. Vols., through their nine months' campaign. He escaped the deadly bullets of the enemy only to find that Death, the great leveler of all mankind, visits alike the palace and the cabin, the field of battle and the peaceful haunts of civil life. May he rest in peace.
