Friday, 15 May 1908 Volume 42, Number 20 Death of Mrs. Catharine Dougherty Age Resident of the West Ward Passes Away Funeral on Monday Last Mrs. Catharine, relict of Edward Dougherty, died Saturday morning at her residence in the West Ward after a long and painful illness of sciatic rheumatism and spinal trouble, aged about seventy-five years. Mrs. Dougherty was a daughter of Edward and Margaret Grew and was born in the vicinity of Wilmore, then Jefferson. In early life she was married to Edward Dougherty of Ebensburg, a saddler by trade and for some years resided near Wilmore, afterwards removing to Ebensburg where her husband died about 18 years ago. She also resided for a time in Gallitzin but eventually came back to Ebensburg. About two years ago the deceased was afflicted with the malady of which she died and which she bore with Christian fortitude and resignation until the end. Mrs. Dougherty was ever a dutiful child, a faithful wife and loving mother and a true member of the Catholic church. She is survived by the following children: James, married and living in Ebensburg; Charles and Elizabeth, at home; Mrs. Mary Adams and Mrs. Kate Galligan; Mrs. Ed Landis and Mrs. John Galligan of Gallitzin. A sister and a brother, Miss Alice Grew and Edward Grew of Wilmore are also living. The funeral took place on Monday morning last after a high mass of requiem and an eloquent and pathetic sermon by Rev. Father O'Neill in the church of the Holy Name in this place, interment being made in the old cemetery near the church.
