Friday, 2 Dec 1910 Volume 44, Number 47 Young Hunter Dies Carrolltown, Nov. 24 -- Earl Eckenrode, who shot himself in the abdomen Nov. 2d while hunting near here, died Sunday afternoon at the home of his grandfather, Frank Shettig, Sr., where he was taken immediately after the accident. Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning in St. Benedict's Church, the body being placed in the church cemetery. The deceased, a son of Liveryman and Mrs. M. M. Eckenrode of Carrolltown, was born March 30, 1883. Surviving with the parents are four brothers and a sister: Irvin, Coyle, Emmitt, Donald and Clara, all at home. The accident occurred while he was hunting with George Buck and Frank Shettig Jr., in the vicinity of his grandfather's home. He was standing on a stump and accidentally discharged the weapon, making at frightful wound in his abdomen.
