He was born in Germany November 30, 1822, and came to this country in 1838. He was first employed by Rev. Father Lambkey in clearing off the ground on which Carrolltown now stands and afterwards worked on the Portage railroad. For the last fourteen years he was employed in the railroad company's wheel shop in this city. In 1850 he was married at Ebensburg to Elizabeth J. Rainey, who, with six children, survives him. The children are John S. Eger and Mrs. Margaret C. Clark of Altoona, Mrs. Ellen T. McDermitt and William H. Eger of Cresson and Miss Mary A. and Charles H. Eger at home. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Eger was a member of the Catholic church. The remains will be taken to St. Aloysius' church at Summit at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning and after requiem mass they will be interred in the cemetery connected with that church.
