Friday, 11 Jun 1909 Volume 43, Number 24 Aged Citizen of Ebensburg Dead Hugh Evans, a Veteran of the Civil War, Dies at Home in County Seat Eighty-One Years Old Hugh Evans, a prominent citizen of the East Ward, died at his home Wednesday night of diseases incident to old age. Mr. Evans was eighty- one on April 5th last. His decline was gradual and his death had been expected for sometime. Hugh Evans was born in Wales but came to this country when a boy of twelve years. He became a farmer and resided in Cambria Township until two or three years ago when he built a residence on Horner Street and moved to Ebensburg. Years ago Mr. Evans married Miss Sarah Evans, who survives him with the following children: John Evans, Harry Evans and Martha, wife of John Griffith, all of Cambria Township; Annie, wife of Marshall Rowland of the East Ward and Miss Allie Evans, at home. Mr. Evans served in the Civil War as a member of Company C, Two Hundred and Ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers and was a member of John M. Jones Post 556, G. A. R. He was for years affiliated with the Congregational Church. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
