Friday, 9 Aug 1912 Volume 45, Number 31 Phil Evans Dead Ebensburg people were greatly shocked today to learn of the death of Phil Evans, formerly of this place, but for a number of years a resident of Johnstown, where he held a responsible position in the mining department of the Cambria Steel company. Mr. Evans was in Ebensburg early this week and looked to be in the best of health. He went to Pittsburg Wednesday with his wife to attend an anniversary celebration at the home of his wife's aunt. Thursday afternoon he was seized with a stroke of apoplexy which was followed later by other complications and Mr. Evans died at 7 o'clock this morning. Phil Evans was 43 years of age last Christmas, having been born in this place, Dec. 25, 1868. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lydia Evans and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Hosea J. Evans, Mrs. S. Lemmon Reed, Miss Mary Evans, and Walt Evans, all of Ebensburg. His father, John O. Evans, has been dead for many years. The remains were brought to Johnstown this evening.
