The particulars that follow were obtained from Mr. George Lingle, fireman of the Delaware engine, under the wheels of which Mr. Fetterman lost his life. The engine was standing on one of the Company's numerous tracks in the yard - about opposite the P.R.R. telegraph tower - when Mr. Fetterman came along on his way to work. The fireman (Mr. Lingle) spoke to him. Shortly afterward, the engine started, and was moving along very slowly, when suddenly a wild shriek was heard. Turning quickly about, Mr. Lingle saw Fetterman under the wheels of his engine. The engine was stopped instantly. Only one wheel passed over Fetterman's body, but it was sufficient to send him to eternity. His body was cut in twain. Death was almost immediate, the poor man gasping but once or twice.
