Death of John A. Folsom 
Suddenly Stricken with Paralysis and Dies Soon After

While out at his stable Wednesday after dinner feeding the 
chickens, John A. Folsom, one of Ebensburg's best known and 
most highly regarded citizens, was suddenly stricken with 
paralysis which affected his left side and although medical 
assistance was called, he died at 2:30.

Mr. Folsom lived in the East ward of Ebensburg.  He was 
born in Lower Yoder Township, September 2, 1844. His father 
came to Cambria County from Massachusetts.  They were what 
is known as Yankees, being of English descent.  On February 
6th, 1873, Mr. Folsom was united in marriage with Miss 
Catherine J. Eakman of Blairsville Intersection and after 
living at Johnstown for awhile they moved to Ebensburg. 
This was 35 years ago and they have resided here since.  
Mr. Folsom was for many years employed by the late Hon. A. 
A. Barker and by Barker Bros.  Nine children were born to 
Mr. and Mrs. Folsom, four of whom are dead and the 
following are living:  Mrs. W. Milton Davis of Moxham; Miss 
Blanche of New York; Misses Maud and Mildred of 
Philadelphia and Charlotte, at home.  Mrs. Folsom also 
survives her husband and one brother, Josiah Folsom, of 
Johnstown is living.  

The deceased was a good man and a faithful member of the 
First Presbyterian Church of Ebensburg. In politics he was 
a Prohibitionist and had been the nominee of that party for 
various offices.  During the war, he was a Union man and 
enlisted for service.  He was a member of Capt. John M. 
Jones Post G. A. R. of Ebensburg.

Ebensburg people sorely regret to part with so good a 
citizen and the suddenness of his death has shocked our 
community.

Interment was made in Lloyd Cemetery today, Rev. Craig 
officiating at the services.
