Friday, 7 Apr 1905 Volume 39, Number 13 Killed by Fall of Rock Thomas Gibbon, a driver in the Beech Creek Coal Company's No. 12 mine, near Patton, was crushed to death by a fall of rock while at his work Thursday morning. On his first trip out he noticed that a section of roof in one of the main headings appeared rather loose and he reported the matter to his brother, Charles Gibbon, foreman of the mine. The latter made preparations for an investigation but without waiting for it, Gibbon, the driver, started back into the mine with his empty car. As he reached the place of which he had warned his brother, a huge rock slipped and without warning, crashed down upon that unfortunate man, crushing him to the floor. When the investigators reached the place they found Gibbon's body beneath the rock. His back was frightfully crushed and it was evident that death was instantaneous. The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of C. C. Gleninger, where it was prepared for burial. The deceased was twenty-seven years and is survived by a widow and two small children.
