Friday, 31 Mar 1911 Volume 45, Number 13 Frozen to Death: John Gibson and Lloyd E. Riddle Two cases of freezing to death, the first in this region, were reported Tuesday, one at Spangler and the other at Boswell. One victim of the cold weather was John Gibson, 60 years, of Patton. He spent the greater part of Monday in Spangler, starting to walk home early in the evening. His body was found by a trolley car crew not far from Spangler. Gibson was a miner, but had not been working. Surviving are a widow and one son, Thomas, who is married and lives at Patton; and a brother, Thomas of Frugality. The other victim of cold Monday night was Lloyd E. Riddle, aged 57 years, of Boswell, Somerset County, who dropped unconscious when but a few rods from the shanty in which he lived. His body was found by two boys bound for school.
