Friday, 14 Dec 1906 Volume 40, Number 50 Haney is Now Dead Dies at Johnstown Hospital on Saturday Last Ira Gray Charged with Murder Lewis Haney, aged fifty-six years, who was shot at Spangler Thursday of last week by his son-in-law, Ira Gray, a son of Ex-Sheriff Gray, died at the Memorial Hospital in Johnstown at 2:45 Saturday afternoon. Following his admission to the hospital Thursday evening, Haney appeared to rally and on Friday some hope was entertained for his recovery. That night, however, he took a turn for the worse and the next morning the physicians knew that death was only a matter of hours. The bullet which caused the man's death passed through the liver, the lower part of the stomach and the right kidney and is supposed to have lodged in the muscles of the back. Mrs. Haney was at the bedside of her husband when he expired. Drs. Wagoner and Hannan on Saturday evening held an autopsy on the remains which were later view by Coroner Prothero and the probable members of the jury for the inquest to be held sometime after the funeral of the deceased. The remains were sent to Portage Saturday evening for burial. Immediately upon receiving notice of Haney's death, County Detective Knee swore out a warrant charging Ira Gray, who has been confined in the County Jail since the shooting, with murder.
