Thursday, 19 Jan 1899 JOHN HUGHES, Father of Richard J. Hughes of this city, died at his home near Ebensburg, Tuesday night, aged 80 years. His death was hastened by an attack of grip. Mr. Hughes was one of Cambria county's pioneer residents. He was born in Llanbrynmaier [Llanbrynmair], Montgomeryshire, North Wales, and went to Ebensburg from there in 1819. For the last seventy-nine years he lived in the house in which his death occurred. He was twice married, both wives being dead. He is survived by these children: Thomas H. and Ezekiel, of Philadelphia; Richard J., of Altoona; William H., of Emporium; Edward J., of Lilly; Mrs. George R. Frederick, of East Liverpool, O., and Maggie Nissley, of Lilly. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.
