Dead at 79 Years 
William H. Humphreys Passes Away at His Home in Cambria 
Township
Was Highly Respected

William H. Humphreys, a retired farmer and highly esteemed 
citizen of Cambria Township, died Monday afternoon at 1 
o'clock at his home five miles south of this place of 
ailments incident to old age.  He was 79 years of age and 
is survived by four sons – David, at home; William and 
Humphrey of Summerhill and Harry, of Wilmore and one 
daughter, Mrs. Rorabaugh of Conemaugh.  He is also survived 
by the following brothers and sisters:  Edward W. of 
Ebensburg; Mrs. D. D. Evans of Cambia Township and Mrs. 
John A. Jones of Ebensburg.  Mr. Humphreys was a 
conscientious Christian all his life and was a member of 
the South Ebensburg Congregational Church.

The funeral took place Wednesday at 2 o'clock, Rev. Jenkins 
conducting the services. Interment was made in Lloyd 
Cemetery.  Many Ebensburg people attended the obsequies.

The deceased was born in North Wales but came to America 
about the time of the Mexican war and settled in Cambria 
Township.  He was married twice. His first wife died a long 
time ago and his second wife, whose maiden name was Ann 
Francis, died a year since.

Mr. Humphreys was a veteran of the Civil War, having served 
in Co. C, 2[numbers faded] regiment.  He enlisted at 
Ebensburg in the fall of 1861 under the captaincy of Robert 
Litzinger.  The first lieutenant of the company was the 
late Col. Samuel W. Davis. Mr. Humphreys was a member of 
Capt. John M. Jones Post, Grand Army of the Republic.
