Friday, 8 Mar 1912 Volume 45, Number 10 Little Boy Drowns Kermit Jones of Summerhill, the nine-year-old son of John J. Jones and a grandson of Robert Jones of Ebensburg, was drowned Thursday afternoon in the river at Conemaugh. Kermit and two boy playmates presented their teacher with excuses which purported to have been written by members of their families, but which had been written by one of the boys. They were excused from school and went down along the river bank to play. Kermit went through ice and was drowned despite the efforts of his companions to save him. The little fellow's mother is prostrated.
