Kathryn Kerbey was born at Wilmore June 22, 1889, being a daughter of Edward Kerbey, who died six years ago in Allegheny county. Her grandfather, George W. Kerbey, was one of the oldest agents of the PRR company, having been located at Wilmore for many years. J. Orton Kerbey of Washington D. C., formerly United States [next sentence missing], deceased as is also Postmaster [word missing] Lloyd of Ebensburg. Sheriff Webster Griffith is a cousin of the deceased's mother. A year or so after the death of Edward Kerbey, the widow and her children located in Ebensburg, Mrs. Kerbey's present home. Her parents were Evan and Catherine Griffith, deceased. Besides her mother, Miss Kerbey is survived by three brothers and a sister: George, Edgar, Thomson, Dewitt and Miss Martha Kerbey. Miss Kerbey was graduated in stenography from a Pittsburg school a few years ago and secured employment in the commissioner's office last spring. Miss Kerbey was very well known in Ebensburg. She was popular alike with old and young and her death has cast a gloom over her many friends. She had just reached that point in life where she could render valuable assistance in her family and her untimely death is a severe shock to her family. During her brief illness, Miss Kerbey was a patient sufferer. The sufferings were severe, but she bore them with patience and fortitude. Several days prior to her death, it became apparent that she could not recover. Much of the time she was delirious and her only concern seemed for the welfare of others. On Saturday morning she was in an extremely critical condition. She had recognized her relatives and friends for the last time on earth and about 10 o'clock her sufferings ended, and her gentle sprit passed into the great beyond. The deceased was prominently identified with the Congregational church of which she had been a constant member. She had been active in all of its departments and will be missed by her companions. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Congregational Church. Her pastor, the Rev. J. Twyson Jones, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Craig, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the obsequies and interment was made in Lloyd cemetery.
