(Ebensburg, Pa.) 1867-1938: February 04, 1871 At her residence in Johnstown, on Sunday evening last, Jan. 29th, Mrs. Mary Murray, relict of Hon. John Murray, aged about 86 years. The deceased was born in Loudon county, Virginia, and at a very early age came with her parents to Bloody Run, Bedford county, where she was married, in 1804, to John Murray, a native of Ireland, who, with his young wife and their first born child, (now Hon. James Murray, of Ebensburg, one of the Associate Judges of this county), then eight months old, came to this place in the latter part of 1805. The subject of this notice was therefore one of the earliest residents of Cambria county, and in its infancy she "grew with its growth and strengthened with its strength." Her husband became an active and influential democratic politician in this county, was at an early day elected to the office of Sheriff, and many years afterwards, was one of the Associate Judges of this county. He died in December, 1863, and after that event his widow removed to Johnstown with her two unmarried daughters, with whom she continued to reside up to the time of her death. On Wednesday last her remains were brought here and consigned to their last earthly resting place in the Catholic cemetery, by the side of her husband. Mrs. Murray was a lady possessed of all the christian virtues, was universally respected and esteemed, and, in a fullness of years not usually allotted to mortals, has gone to reap the reward of a faithful and well-spent life.
